Course assessment will be decided after consultation with students at the first lecture and the first tutorial. However, as a ground rule, there will be at least one essay, tutorial participation assessment and a final form of assessment to demonstrate breadth of knowledge.
The following table provides an overview of the assessment as agreed in the Week 2 tutorials. Click on the relevant link under exercise for more details of each item:

song, a record company, a ‘scene’, or whatever interests you) of
popular music as a case study and apply these key sociological themes. (40%)
Due 1 week after your tutorial presentation.
- Please consult the Sociology Extension Policy and guidelines on plagiarism attached to this course outline.
3. A 2,000-word Course Summary (Synoptic Essay)
The Synoptic Essay is due on Monday 10 November.
This

discussions. Attendance is based on submission of a piece of paper with three
questions or comments on each week’s readings at the tutorial. Tutorial
discussion is based around these student questions.
The weighting of the components is open to negotiation.
If the assessment scheme outlined above is acceptable to students then we suggest the following weightings:
Presentation 10%
Essay 40%
Course Summary 40%
Tutorial Participation 10%
