Example 7. Matching Psalm-tone incipits with differentiae.

Example 7 requires one to connect each Psalm-tone incipit with its correct differentia. These are the modal fragments which are normally given in MSS as abbreviations for the Introit and/or Communion Psalm-verse and Gloria Patri respectively, and which enable one to identify the mode of these chants. Memorisation is, therefore, imperative.
