A Computer teaching Package on the Transcription of Eleventh Century Aquitanian Chant Notation

Greta-Mary Hair

Abstract

This article reports on the use of a computer teaching package with interactive exercises for developing skills in transcribing eleventh century Aquitanian chant. The package made it possible for this area of study, formerly considered appropriate for postgraduates, to be included in the undergraduate curriculum. A section concerning the technical details of the package implemented by John Gormley is included at the end of the article.
