The Homer Seminar IV, 2007

Saturday and Sunday 1-2 December 2007

This weekend seminar, to be held at The Australian National University, Canberra , is intended to give Australasian Homerists - especially postgraduates and early-career researchers - an opportunity to test out ideas, methodologies, and findings in a supportive environment, and to maximise the possibility of constructive feedback. Although the focus of the seminar will be squarely on the Homeric epics, their context, and their afterlife, attendance is not limited only to those who consider themselves Homerists. All are welcome.

Those interested in participating in the seminar are asked to contact me and, if you wish to give a paper, to propose a paper-title and an abstract (of up to a page in length). The time allowed for each paper will be 45 minutes; the presentation of the paper itself should occupy no more than 25 minutes. Papers may be pre-circulated electronically. I am happy to arrange this. The closing date for submission of abstracts is 30 September 2007. But if you intend to come (or think that you may come) I would be happy to hear from you before that date. It helps me with planning. If you intend to come to the seminar but do not wish to give a paper, do let me know before 31 October that you will be attending.

It is proposed that the first session of the seminar will begin on Saturday morning and that the seminar will conclude at lunchtime on Sunday, to allow participants to return home that afternoon.

There is no registration fee payable for what will be a small and more or less informal gathering. I shall, however, ask you on that weekend to pay $15, which will cover a picnic lunch (by Silo, again) on the Saturday and morning and afternoon teas, and possibly some drinks as well. As for accommodation, you have a choice: a room in University House, an apartment in Liversidge Court , a room in one of the university colleges on campus or at Fenner Hall on Northbourne Avenue (where most people choose to stay). Accommodation information is below .
