Dr Louise Maurer

 

Research interests

-Image literacy in language-culture studies
-discourse analysis of visual/textual representations
-stereotype and attitudes in cross cultural language education
-the relevance of contemporary literature, the visual arts and cinema in language education from an interdisciplinary and cross cultural perspective.

1997 Curator of an exhibition of 32 original works by French and Australian artists on the theme of intercultural exchanges, entitled “Ici, un bout du monde, Here one end of the world”, exhibited in France in the Town Hall of Gentilly, Paris in November 1996 and in Australia at the Alliance Française, Canberra in April. Core language & culture courses : Introductory French I and II, Intermediate French I and II, Advanced French I and II. Design and Participation in Courses offered to students of French, Italian and German with a European focus and a cross-cultural dimension to the study of modern European languages and art forms :

- Contemporary European Narrative (1999 and 2002): Literary and Visual, with a focus on Michel Tournier the Erl-King and the paintings of Anselm Kiefer.

- Language and Identity in a European Context (2000), with a focus on language and identity in a cross-cultural perspective.
