Research interests

-Image literacy in language-culture studies
-discourse analysis of visual/textual representations
-stereotype and attitudes in cross cultural language education
-the relevance of contemporary literature, the visual arts and cinema in language education from an interdisciplinary and cross cultural perspective.

1998 Louise Maurer ‘Voir, lire et dire le musée' designed as a web site for advanced students of French at the ANU with a Faculty Teaching Development Fund grant, selected to be part of a CD-ROM entitled: "A l'heure d'internet" , laboratoire des sciences de l'éducation de l'université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, 1998 and published with no 362 of Cahiers Pédagogiques , Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France, March 1998.

Core language & culture courses : Introductory French I and II, Intermediate French I and II, Advanced French I and II. Design and Participation in Courses offered to students of French, Italian and German with a European focus and a cross-cultural dimension to the study of modern European languages and art forms :

- Contemporary European Narrative (1999 and 2002): Literary and Visual, with a focus on Michel Tournier the Erl-King and the paintings of Anselm Kiefer.

- Language and Identity in a European Context (2000), with a focus on language and identity in a cross-cultural perspective.

- Selected Topics in French Studies (2001) « Identité et écriture de l’interculturel dans trois romans d’auteurs contemporains : Claire Etcherelli Elize ou la vraie vie (taught by Dr Muller), Jean-Marie Le Clézio La Quarantaine, et Leïla Sebbar Shérazade»Joint research projects undertaken with other institutions.
