ANU History SocietyFormed in first semester, the ANU History Society now has more than 70 members, students and staff. This newsletter is to let you – members and prospective members – know who we are, what we’ve been doing and what’s planned for the rest of the year for the History Society. Read on!
Who are we?
The History Society in its current incarnation first met in May this year, initiated by the student representatives on the History Departmental Committee. The aims of the Society, decided at the first meeting, are: to provide a social forum for history students and others; to be a focal point for those interested in history and historical issues; and to work to maintain a high standard and range of choice in teaching at the ANU.
Ideas for future functions
We are planning to hold a trivia night at some stage this semester, probably early in the 3rd teaching period. If anyone is interested in helping organise this, especially if you’ve conducted these before, please contact Felicity Moore.
As an end of year function, when the weather is better we’ll hold a BBQ, possibly in conjunction with other student groups within the Arts Faculty. This will be towards the very end of the semester, and again any assistance in organising this will be welcome. One suggestion is that we incorporate some kind of staff/ student sporting event, like volleyball, which could be amusing after a couple of cold ones. Sound like a good idea? Let us know what you think.
Are there other or different social occasions we should be thinking about? Let a member of the executive know or raise it at a meeting of the society.
