Jane SHEPHERD was baptized on 29 September 1788 at St Benedict's Catholic Chapel, Bonham, Stourton, Somerset, England.2
Marriage*
21 June 1813
She married Isaiah WITHEY on 21 June 1813 at Stourton, Wiltshire, England.
Note*
Other information; Jane's baptism record gives her mother's name as Elizabeth. However, earlier and later records give the name of the wife of Francis SHEPHERD as Frances, and of course there is their marriage record in 1775. I am inclined to think that the "Elizabeth" was a clerical error, although it is possible that there was more than one Francis SHEPHERD having children at that time.

John SHEPHERD
M, #7068, b. circa 1650
Birth*
circa 1650
John SHEPHERD was born circa 1650.
Note*
Other information; Had a wife whose Christian name was not given, who was presented for recusancy in 1682. There was also a John SHEPHERD of Stourton in the 1706 census of Catholics. The Anglican baptism records have the baptism in 1704 of Mary, the daughter of John and Mary SHEPHERD. I believe that this is a too late to be the same couple who were presented in 1682. Therefore, I have created another John SHEPHERD, with a wife Mary, and assigned the second as the son of the first. Burial records should clarify this.1
Residence*
He lived at Stourton.
Recusancy*
1682
He was convicted of being a Catholic Recusant on 1682 at Stourton, Wiltshire, England.1
Other information; I regretfully have to create a new person, called John SHEPHERD. He had a son with his wife Mary, who died in 1811, but can't be the John SHEPHERD who had a son with his wife Susan in 1810, and who was living with his wife Susan in 1821. There must have been another John SHEPHERD in the parish, whose child was not baptised there.

She was aged 20 in the 1841 census and lived at Pen Pitts, Penselwood, Somerset, England.
Note*
Other information; Louisa was living with Robert and Fanny CARTER in 1841 and was listed as Louisa CARTER. Charles and Cecily, who are recorded as the children of Robert and Fanny in the Bonham registers, were witnesses at the second wedding of Louisa in 1848. It is assumed that they were her siblings. It is assumed that the marriage of William Hurden and Louisa Shepherd in 1843 in Bonham refers to this Louisa, and that she was born illegitimately, the dau of Fanny Shepherd. This would be why no father was listed on her marriage certificate. It is assumed that Robert CARTER was her father, as he apparently married her mother within a few months of her birth, although no marriage record has been located. There are many assumptions in this particular part of the family, and this should be reviwed each time new data is acquired.
