There were two possibilities: Mary FORD in 1824 or Mary ROSE in 1826. The marriage to Mary FORD was selected as the marriage that produced Elizabeth PARFITT in 1840, because the 1841 census shows that James PARFITT, aged 15, was living in this household at this time. West Wilts Baps shows that he was baptised 6 Feb 1825, which was before the date of marriage of William PARFITT and Mary ROSE.^3,1

Note*

Other information; Since his age is so variable, it is difficult to determine which William is which. There were two baptised in 1796 s/o John and s/o William. One buried on 30 Dec 1864 aged 63 yrs. Several born 1802 and 1803. One born in 1793 and one in 1794.

Mary PARFITT, aged 20 yrs, Silk Throwster, was living with this family in 1841. The only one in Mere to match is Mary Ann PARFITT, d/o William & Ann, baptised 1819 in Mere. If this is the same William, then the marriage record is incorrect to list him as a bachelor in 1824.

This family was identified and separated from the "other" William & Mary PARFITT, based on children living with them at the various censuses.
