Islam &
Marble, by Michael Greenhalgh, Sir William Dobell Professor of
Art History
This monograph traces the use of marble in Islamic art and architecture
from its origins to the present time. By comparing the treatment of
marble in Christendom with that in Islam, it demonstrates that Islam,
while developing new forms of architecture and decoration, also draws
strongly on the prestige of the Roman and Byzantine Empires.
Replete with beautifully photographed images, which are also accessible
on an enclosed CD-ROM, this work stands out as unique contribution
to the field of Art History.
This monograph is available for purchase directly from the Centre
for Arab & Islamic Studies for $28.00 (including postage &
handling within Australia). |
