AFGHANISTAN
TRAINING PROGRAM AT
THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY
This
academic program, funded by AusAID, was devised by Professor Amin
Saikal, Director of the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies and
Professor William Maley, Director of the Asia-Pacific College of
Diplomacy and involved lectures and interactive discussions, over
a two week period, covering the following:
•
The dynamics of world politics;
• Afghanistan’s place in international affairs;
• Trade and regional cooperation;
• Reconstruction of disrupted states;
• Institutional options for addressing the challenges which
these issues create.
Participants
were some thirteen Afghan officials from various relevant ministries,
especially Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Communications, Finance, Economy,
Higher Education, Justice, Women’s Affairs and Transport and
Aviation. On their return to Kabul, the trainees will be expected
to provide leadership in their ministries.
