A step by step set of photos showing how a canoe is made by two men, Alben and his son Silas, from Eratap village in the south of the island of Efate in central Vanuatu. The tree that is being cut here is called Whitewood, Endospermum medullosum.
This set of photos was taken as part of a project recording the language of South Efate by Nick Thieberger, under the auspices of the Vanuatu Cultural Centre.
