They can be reached at ippa2009@vnn.vn.

The Canberra (ANU) secretariat consists of Peter Bellwood and Claudia Morris, Judith Cameron, Aedeen Cremin, Hsiao-chun Hung and Rintaro Ono. They can be reached at ippa@anu.edu.au

If you wish to give a paper, please contact a session convenor first to find a place in the program. Then send your name, institution and paper title to ippa@anu.edu.au.

Abstracts should be sent to ippa@anu.edu.au as soon as possible, at the latest by 30 September, and must be formatted correctly as in the 4 abstracts files above (any not so formatted will be returned for repair). An abstracts booklet will be printed for handing out during the conference itself. The conference venue will also have ample space for poster display, and tables for advertisement of associations, journals, publications, etc.

Lunches and coffee breaks will be served in the conference venue – we are currently looking at around US$3.00 per lunch box per day. No plans have been made for evening meals and delegates will need to take care of themselves.

We advise everyone to take out travel insurance as a matter of course. Check if you need a visa to enter Vietnam. If so, you can probably apply online to have the visa issued on arrival - put Vietnam Embassy and your capital city into Google.

During the Hanoi conference we will need to discuss how IPPA is to be organised in the future. The environment for scholarly associations such as IPPA is very different now from what it was when the current association was founded in 1976. Journals are now on line (as is BIPPA), refereed, ranked by government funding agencies, and need institutional support if they are to flourish. The current IPPA organisation, with a scattered and volunteer Executive Committee, cannot manage these changes. We have to change the whole system of operation, and appoint an actual working Editorial Board. We need people with editorial skills in the English language to help regional authors present their research findings to an international readership. In the past, the IPPA Bulletin has encouraged regional authors, many who are not native writers of English, to publish their findings. Hopefully, this trend can continue, but competitive funding and helpful mentoring no longer go hand in hand.
